SPFBO9 Cartoons, #4: Louise Gorday

Louise sent me this, which she signed off with a self-deprecating “I think I should stick to writing, lol.” (Girl, if it’s any consolation – my 15-y-old said the demon was the cutest thing he’s ever seen.)

Did you recognize someone in the picture? Right, that’s Edgar Allan Poe. The mustache is a dead giveaway. Poe holds a certain fascination for me (the mystery more than his actual work, admittedly, but so what), so Louise’s book Edgar and the Flyboys is definitely going on my TBR pile. I really wanted to read it in time, to have a review ready when this post goes up, but then I noticed that another SPFBO9 entry is titled “Angel from the Rust”… what can I say, I was helpless to resist. I hope Louise can understand and ultimately forgive me. Anyway, her book is about an immortal battling Pandora’s grandson for the dark muse of Edgar Allan Poe, which sounds absolutely, wonderfully hilarious to me. A brief look at Louise’s website informed me that the same immortal also features in another book of hers, called A Slaying Song Tonight. Puns and music! I might be in love. And now I feel double guilty about not having read it in time.

But! Someone else has read it, namely one of the judges in the SPFBO9 contest. They liked it. A lot, apparently, because they marked it as safe, which means (provided I understand all this stuff correctly) it is already lined up to become a semi-finalist. Here’s the respective review.

Here’s what the book’s cover looks like (and I strongly assume Louise didn’t draw that one herself).

And here’s where you can buy it. Have fun with it!

No, I haven’t yet figured out what I want to be when I grow up, whenever that may be. In the meantime, I write the occasional book.
